Eyeglass prescription in Surrey, BC.

Need a new or updated glasses prescription? A comprehensive eye exam gives you a precise, current prescription and a full check of your eye health, with OCT included. Your prescription is yours to use wherever you like. Inside Specsavers Guildford Town Centre.

More than a number

What goes into an accurate prescription.

A good eyeglass prescription comes from a careful measurement of how your eyes focus, called a refraction, combined with a full check of your eye health. We take the time to fine-tune the result so your glasses are comfortable and clear, not just close enough.

Every comprehensive exam also includes OCT retinal imaging at no extra charge, so while we update your prescription we are also checking for conditions that have nothing to do with your glasses.

Your prescription is yours

Use it anywhere you like.

After your exam, your eyeglass prescription belongs to you. You are free to fill it wherever you choose, whether that is in the optical next door or somewhere else. We are happy to provide a copy.

If you also want to wear contacts, note that a glasses prescription is not the same as a contact lens prescription, which needs its own fitting.

When to update

How often should you renew?

Most adults benefit from an updated prescription every one to two years, and sooner if your vision changes, you get more headaches or eye strain, or your current glasses no longer feel right. Children often change faster as they grow.

If your prescription has expired or you are squinting at screens and signs, it is time for a fresh comprehensive eye exam.

Cost and coverage

Cost and MSP.

A comprehensive adult eye exam is $99, with OCT imaging included. A full eye exam is covered yearly by MSP for children 18 and under and seniors 65 and over. We direct bill most insurance plans and explain any costs clearly first.

Good to know

Frequently asked questions

How often should I update my glasses prescription?

Most adults benefit from an updated prescription every one to two years, and sooner if your vision changes or your current glasses stop feeling right. Children often need updates more frequently as they grow. A comprehensive eye exam gives you a current prescription and checks your eye health.

Can I take my prescription and buy glasses elsewhere?

Yes. Your eyeglass prescription is yours after the exam, and you can fill it wherever you like. We are happy to provide a copy.

Does an eyeglass prescription expire?

Prescriptions are dated and are generally considered current for a year or two. If yours has expired or your vision has changed, it is worth a fresh comprehensive eye exam so your glasses are accurate.

Is the eye exam covered by MSP?

A full eye exam is covered yearly by MSP for children 18 and under and seniors 65 and over. For adults 19 to 64 a comprehensive exam is $99, and a medically necessary exam is covered by MSP. We direct bill most insurance plans.
